59-year-old American actor
is starring in the new historical film "The Favorite" by French director Maiwenn Le Besco, who is also the lead actress. Depp plays King Louis XV, and a new photo of the actor in this image has appeared on the Internet, reports Deadline.
In the frame, Johnny is shown with a sword in his hand and a ruby brooch. He is wearing a velvet camisole, a triangle with feathers, a silk vest with embroidery.
The historical love drama is inspired by the life of Jeanne Dubarry, the last favorite of Louis XV at the Court of Versailles after Madame de Pompadour.
The illegitimate daughter of a seamstress born poor, Jeanne Dubarry was a young working-class woman thirsty for culture and pleasure.
She uses her intelligence and beauty to climb the ranks of 18th century Parisian high society and the court of Louis XV at Versailles. When she becomes the king's favorite, he regains a taste for life through their relationship, but is unaware of her status as a courtesan.
The two fall madly in love with each other, and despite all decency and etiquette, Jeanne moves to Versailles, where her arrival outrages the court.
The story of Jeanne Dubarry is Maiwenn's most ambitious work to date, as she not only stars but also co-wrote the screenplay with Teddy Lussi-Modeste. She has previously directed six feature films, including the documentary feature Poliss, which won the Jury Prize at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival.
Le Besco also directed the 2015 romantic drama My King starring Vincent Cassel, Emmanuelle Bercot, Louis Garrel and Isilde Le Besco. Emmanuelle Bercot won the Best Actress award at Cannes in 2015.
As for Depp, his latest work to date is Andrew Levitas' film " Minamata ". The drama, based on real events, tells the story of a small Japanese village whose inhabitants began to fall ill from mercury poisoning in the 1950s.
Johnny Depp played photojournalist Eugene Smith, who helped trace the origin of mercury to a chemical company that dumped waste into the water. Despite the success of the film abroad, they tried to "bury" it in the United States.
Filming of "The Favourite" began on July 26 and lasted 11 weeks in Versailles and other parts of Paris. Along with Depp and Mavenne, the film also starred Benjamin Lavergne, Pierre Richard, Melville Poupot, Noemie Lvovsky and Pascal Greggory.
Recall that Depp was "canceled" in Hollywood after his ex-wife accused him of domestic violence. After several years of persecution, Johnny won defamation case and proved that he was slandered.
Now studios are ready to pay him hundreds of millions of dollars to bring him back to their most successful projects.
