Recently, Betsy Ross, a resident of Visalia, California, shared an unusual story.

She said that a few months ago, while walking in the park with her husband and three children, they stumbled upon a destroyed nest.

Upon closer inspection, Betsy found a single egg inside with a small crack. Nothing was leaking from it, so she decided to try to save the chick.

She called the local wildlife shelter, but they refused to take the egg. Unable to buy an incubator, Betsy decided to "carry" the egg in her own bra and warm it with the heat of her body.

From the internet, she learned that the egg needed a stable temperature and humidity. She placed the egg in her bra and turned it 4–5 times a day for 35 days!

The "incubation" process didn't stop even at night, so Betsy had to sleep in her bra and avoid sudden movements.

If she needed to shower, she handed the egg to her husband, who would warm it in his hands. Betsy watched as the chick inside grew and gained weight.

She read on the internet that in the later stages of incubation, the egg required very high humidity, which she couldn't provide any more due to obvious reasons.

Then, the resourceful rescuer created her own incubator using a lamp, a plastic container, a garbage bag, and a bowl of water.

The egg soon started making faint sounds, chirping or tapping. Betsy placed it in a box and waited.

A day passed, but the chick didn't hatch, so the worried woman called a veterinarian to her home. It turned out that the chick was entangled in foil inside the egg.

The doctor carefully cleaned the upper part of the shell, and then another problem arose: since the chick "hatched" early, it was still attached to the yolk at the bottom of the egg.

To save the chick from infection and allow further development, Betsy wrapped the remnants of the shell in a damp cloth soaked in antibiotics.

The chick was weak. It lay motionless for several days, but the woman didn't give up. She tried to give it water and soaked it in antibiotics.

The treatment worked. One day, the chick woke up and stood up.

During the day, the chick would usually sleep with its caring "mother" - as Betsy perceived it.

And if she needed to go on a business trip to the city, it would travel with her in a small carrier.

The animal would follow Betsy, and whenever it heard her voice, it would respond with loud chirping. Once, she had to leave it at home, and her husband said that the whole time she was away, the chick cried loudly and mournfully.

As time went by, the chick turned into a beautiful duck - independent enough to leave the woman's house.

The duck settled on a small farm where rescued animals and birds live. And there, it befriended a little girl who loved it just like Betsy did.
