The American family pet, which turned 23 years old, was listed in the Guinness Book of Records. The record was broken by a dog from the American state of Ohio.
The dog's story began back in 2009, when she was miraculously picked up by her newfound owner.
"His back was shaved, he had blood stains on his neck from a chain or rope. He was in bad shape," the owner recalled.
The dog was in a terrible condition, abandoned near the first store he saw.
An American woman became his savior, so the dog is as thankful as he can be for her service.
The record-breaker has lived with her for 13 years on the farm and is insanely happy with his new family.
Even though the dog is no longer young, he sticks to a regimen.
"Now that he's a record holder, they see him as a celebrity. They can't believe he lived that long," she says.
At seven o'clock in the morning, his working day begins. His duties include walking around the farm with his owner and inspecting the cows and horses.
Spike has become irritable with age, can't see well, and has a bad sense of smell. But in spite of all this, he is loved.
