Feline psychologist Julie Posluns notes that cats meet all the criteria that potential owners often look for in pets.
Cats have character and adapt well to the human way of life. People are attracted to their "cute" traits - their soft fur, cute muzzles and soothing purrs.
"But because cats retain much of their wildness, they fascinate us with their intelligence and independent spirit. Sharing their home with them is fun, interesting, and also handy for creating great social media content," notes the psychologist.
Dogs came first
Dogs were domesticated before cats. They helped humans hunt, but when they settled down and started storing surplus grain, the era of cats came. The point is that by storing a lot of grain, people were dealing with mice, so the arrival of cats was a salvation.
"We think what happened is that cats sort of domesticated themselves", said Carlos Driscoll, one of the authors of a study on cats.
People preferred cats with a more malleable personality. They are the ancestors of modern cats.
The oldest cat
The oldest cat in the world was 38 years and 3 days old. Creme Puff was awarded the title of oldest cat who lived 38 years and 3 days (from 1967-2005).
Besides this cat, his owner Jake Perry had another cat named Rex Allen, who was 34 years old.
Black Cats
