It is recommended to wash light and dark items separately from light-colored items, as they can not only fade but also dye the entire contents of the washing machine.

Not everyone knows what to do when clothes are dyed during washing, as they often just get thrown away when this happens.

However, don't rush to do this, as there are now many ways to wash dyed clothing and restore its color.

If you notice that an item has been dyed, try to act immediately. Try washing it in the usual way, but sort the contents of the washing machine by color beforehand. For greater effectiveness, stains can be rubbed with laundry soap before washing and left to soak for 3–4 hours.

If colored or dark stains haven't had time to dry, using dishwashing liquid can help remove them. Add it to hot water and soak the clothes in this solution for a few hours. If you've already washed the clothes, and it didn't help, you'll need more serious measures.

The effectiveness of different color restoration methods depends largely on the type of fabric. Cotton clothing is the easiest to restore to its original appearance. Artificial materials, such as nylon, are difficult and sometimes impossible to bleach.

If you need to bleach dyed fabrics, try washing them in the washing machine and adding a regular powdered bleach product (which can be bought at a household chemical store).

Liquid bleach is added to the pre-wash chamber. To avoid permanently ruining white clothes, follow the instructions on the product packaging.

If the item cannot be washed in a washing machine, soak it in bleach for 5-6 hours first, then wash it by hand. If the fabrics are white, bleach can be used.

Light clothing may lose its color after such treatment. It is recommended to use products labeled "Color" or "For Colored Fabrics". Many stain removers are not only added to the washing machine, but also applied to the stain beforehand.

When purchasing bleach, pay attention to its composition. Chlorine-containing products are not recommended for washing delicate fabrics, silk, wool, or linen. The fabric can easily be damaged by such aggressive treatment.

Folk remedies like ammonia or hydrogen peroxide can be used to restore color. For 4 liters of water, you'll need 2 teaspoons of ammonia or 2-3 tablespoons of hydrogen peroxide.

Pour the water into a bucket, metal container, or large pan, add ammonia or hydrogen peroxide, mix well, and place the dyed clothing in the solution. Put the basin on the stove and bring the water to a boil.

Boil over low heat for about an hour to clean the fabric. If you're afraid that boiling will ruin your clothing, you can try a different method. Dissolve 10 ml of ammonia in five liters of hot water.

Soak the item in this solution for at least 1-1.5 hours. Then the stains should disappear. Be prepared, however, for a strong ammonia odor. To remove it, wash the item in the machine or by hand with a scented conditioner. This method can be used to wash both white and colored fabrics.

Starch, salt, and citric acid can also be used to restore color. To prepare the cleaning mixture, mix citric acid, salt, starch, and grated laundry soap in equal proportions (about 1 tablespoon each).

Mix everything well and add a little warm water to make a thick paste. Take the clothing and put this mixture on the damaged areas on the wrong side. Leave the item in this form for 8-10 hours (you can leave it overnight), then rinse it.
