Most cat owners have tried at least once to determine their pet's mood by its facial expression. With cats, it's easy to do — just pay attention to the position of their tail.

Droopy tail

If you notice that your furry friend's tail is drooping while it attentively studies something, it's a signal that you shouldn't bother the cat. The animal is focused on something that has piqued its interest, so it's best not to interrupt.

Flicking tail tip

You may have noticed that sometimes, when your cat looks at you or interacts with you, only the tip of its tail flicks. What does it mean? In the language of cats, it's a display of friendliness. Your companion is in a good mood and is happy with your presence or attention.

Tail held high

This is a stronger emotion. If your striped furry friend walks around with its tail held high, it means everything is good for the cat. It's an indicator of happiness and enjoyment of life.

Conditions, food, play, and even the person themselves, everything pleases the animal.

Tucked tail

On the contrary, if the situation is the opposite and the tail is pressed or tucked between the hind legs, it indicates negativity. Perhaps the cat was startled by something and is clearly feeling stressed. It may be upset with the owner or another pet and is showing its displeasure with the situation.

Rapid tail twitching or lashing

A clear warning for both the owner and any other animals nearby. Through such tail swipes on the floor or lashing, the cat shows its irritated state. It's a warning: it's better not to touch it right now. Leave the cat alone for a while and let it calm down.

Puffed-up fur

If you disregard the advice from the previous point about tail twitching, you may notice that the cat's fur is now significantly puffed up, and its hair stands on end.

This is a clear sign of anger, and the cat is ready to attack. Get ready to separate two battling cats or to escape from a cat that has targeted you.
