When you order a pizza, you expect to receive it in the usual box, which you then throw away.

But one American pizzeria is doing something more with their pizza boxes while also helping a local organization.

As reported: Popularni.live

Just Pizza & Wings Co. in Amherst, New York, attaches flyers featuring cute dogs to their boxes.

And the most interesting part is that the person who takes home the dog from the shelter featured on the box gets a $50 gift certificate to the pizzeria.

The unique idea came from Mary Alloy, who owns the pizzeria chain, when she and her three children were volunteering at an animal rescue organization.

Mary convinced Kimberly LaRussa to come up with a way to help more shelter animals find loving homes.

"Kimberly sent me a message one day: 'Hey, what do you think about putting pictures of dogs on pizza boxes?'" Mary said. "We all love animals here, so I got permission from the company and immediately started working."

On Friday, customers began receiving orders with flyers featuring dogs waiting to be adopted. Mary said she was pleasantly surprised by the customer reactions:

"People are excited!" she said. "After the first day of putting flyers in pizza boxes, a six-month-old puppy named Larry was adopted."

"Interest in the dogs has skyrocketed, and we have felt so much support from the community after this story went viral," LaRussa said. "Many people want to order pizza just to get a photo of a shelter dog, while other pizzerias have also proposed attaching flyers to their boxes."

Mary reported that the pizzeria is now getting a lot more orders. Since the restaurant usually uses 600-800 boxes a week, they have already sent out 500 boxes in just a few days.
